Moorpark, Ventura County
Moorpark is named for a variety of apricot that once grew in its orchards. The town was laid out in 1900 along the railroad, and pepper trees planted then still shade High Street. For about an hour on November 12, 1957, an experimental reactor in the nearby hills supplied its electricity, making Moorpark one of the first communities in the country to be lit by nuclear power.
